Image of Belgrade

A group of students at the University of Arts in Belgrade following a 2-year postgraduate programme in Cultural Management and Policy in the Balkans are realizing a project, as part of their studies, concerning the image of the city of Belgrade to foreigners through photography. Being foreigners themselves, their stay in Belgrade has given them a kind of image of the city, which is different from what they had before visiting it. Now, they are interested in the variety of images that exist on the part of photographers that visited this town, at least once. They want to know in which way this urban space has been photographed. In turn, this would help to understand the more general image that Belgrade has outside of Serbia, which is projected to potential visitors before making a trip to Belgrade.

The project leads to a presentation through a cyclical projection during a number of evenings/nights of photos in a public space of Belgrade in the month of June, possibly accompanied by other events (debates, music, etc.). The time and place of projections will be announced.

Anyone who is interested to participate should send 5 – 10 photos in digital format. Participants can send their work either as attachments by e-mail to imagebelgrade@gmail.com, or on CD-ROM by post to

NOTE: this project is not a competition. Works from all participants will be presented. Depending on response, any decisions regarding selection will be made in cooperation with the participants.
